Anti-Wrinkle Treatments

_edited_edited.jpg

Wrinkles are a natural part of the ageing process. With age, our skin gets thinner, drier and we lose elastin. The ability of our skin to protect itself is reduced as we age. Eventually, wrinkles, creases, and lines form on our skin.Continuous muscle contraction is also another major contributor to facial wrinkles. Continuous muscle movement causes 'dynamic wrinkles' which only appear when the muscle is used.

Over time, if untreated, these wrinkles can become 'static wrinkles' which means they become permanently etched in our skin.

Whilst the face is in motion the lines that appear are known as dynamic wrinkles, however, repeated movement over time forms deeper lines and folds known as static wrinkles.

Forehead Lines, Frown Lines, Crow’s Feet

Antiwrinkle Forehead, Frown & Crows Feet

These are the 3 most common areas for anti-wrinkle treatment Known as the Frontalis (Forehead) Glabella (Frown) and Lateral Canthal Lines (Crows Feet). Treatment is available for 1, 2 or 3 areas of your choosing however it is advisable that if you are wanting your forehead lines treated that you also treat your frown. This is because the glabella complex (frown muscles) causes depression of the brows. Placing anti-wrinkle here will relax and lift the brows. The forehead muscle known as the frontalis acts to elevate the brows. If Anti-Wrinkle is placed here solely, it will lead to a lowering of the eyebrows. Therefore, treating the forehead alone can cause flattening or heaviness of the brow. Treating the glabella (Frown lines)or Lateral Canthral Lines, individually is fine.

Anti-Wrinkle Injectables work to prevent the formation of static wrinkles by stopping the signal between the nerve and muscle.

The decreased movement in the muscle places less stress on the skin helping you maintain a fresh and youthful appearance. This treatment is most effective when used as a preventative measure.

Anti-Wrinkle Injectables are made from a purified protein that temporarily causes facial muscles to relax, softening lines and wrinkles and reducing the severity of visible wrinkles

The active ingredient in muscle relaxing injections is the neurotoxin onabotulinumtoxinA, which is injected in liquid form into the treatment area. When injected into the muscle, the muscle relaxant works by inhibiting the neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers that “tell” the muscles when to contract. When the acetylcholine is blocked by the Botox injection, the muscles no longer contract, causing them to relax.

Benefits of Anti-Wrinkle Treatment.

  • You don’t have to have wrinkles to know you don’t want them in your future. While their main purpose is to improve or temporarily remove existing lines, Anti-Wrinkle Injectables can be used as a preventative measure to help soften the expression lines that form when your face moves and put the formation of future lines on pause.

  • With both age and repetitive muscle movement, lines settle into the face and are visible even at rest. It’s these static, 24/7 lines that can make your face look tired and fatigued. By softening those lines and wrinkles in the skin, your face looks fresher, more youthful, and relaxed.

  • Anti-Wrinkle Injectables can do more than just reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles; they can also be used to lift certain parts of the face and balance asymmetrical features.

  • Wrinkle Injectables can also be used to treat non-cosmetic areas. Some added benefits of treating targeted muscles can include a reduction in excessive sweating (in areas such as the underarms).

Excessive Sweating (hyperhidrosis)

Muscle relaxing injections can also be used to effectively treat areas where excessive sweating is an issue.

Muscle relaxing injections block the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which binds with your sweat glands to signal the release of sweat.

Normally, your nervous system activates your sweat glands when your body temperature rises. This is how your body automatically cools itself. In people with hyperhidrosis, however, the nerves that signal the sweat glands are overactive.

When you receive muscle relaxing injections directly into the area of your body that commonly sweats, your overactive nerves are essentially paralyzed. When your nerves can’t signal your sweat glands, you don’t sweat. However, muscle relaxing injections only prevents sweating in the specific area where it’s injected. The most common areas for hyperhidrosis treatment are underarms, palms, forehead and soles of the feet.

Lip Flip

lip flip

A lip flip is a nonsurgical method of creating a fuller lip. Muscle relaxing injections are placed  into the upper lip to create an illusion of a larger lip.The goal is to relax the orbicularis oris muscle, which helps form and shape the lips. The injection encourages the top lip to relax and “flip” outwards, giving the subtle illusion of a fuller lip. Although the procedure makes the lip look more prominent, it does not increase the size of the lip itself. A lip flip is particularly beneficial for those who have a very thin upper lip

Gummy Smile

Muscle relaxing injections are a non-surgical alternative to extensive surgical treatments for severe gummy smiles. Botox is a neurotoxin that depresses various nerve functions. It is given as local anaesthetic injections just above the smile, at the Yonsei Point, which is where three muscles meet.

The injections work by paralyzing the muscles that pull up the corners of the mouth, and as a result, stop the excessive display of gum tissue. The procedure takes only 10 minutes to perform and has few risks. There is usually some bruising and swelling after the injections, but these will subside within a week or two. Results are usually seen within 3-4 days and last for around 3-6 months.

Nose Tip Lift

nose tip lift

Do you like the shape of your nose, but does the tip droop down with certain facial expressions?

A droopy nose tip is exactly what it sounds like. The tip of your nose droops down, instead of having a more straight or upturned stop at the tip. The nose hooks downward making it look elongated. This type of nose is also referred to as nasal tip ptosis or a saggy nose. The drooping is caused by a lack or loss of structure on the nasal tip, which is what supports the nasal tip. You can have a droopy nose because you have too much cartilage around the nose, or if your cartilage lacks firmness. The drooping often becomes more pronounced as we age, because gravity, the use of the nose and loss of elastane and collagen influences the structure daily. The goal of correcting your droopy nose is to achieve a more perky appearance and stop the nose from drooping whilst smiling, laughing or performing other facial expressions. We do this by injecting a small amount of muscle relaxant into the tip of the nose. This relaxes the depressor septi nasi muscle, usually placed right at the base of the septum. This is the muscle that pulls the nasal tip downward. This creates a more subtle 'Tinkerbell' pixie look.

Nasal Flaring

Nasal Flaring

Nasal flaring is caused by the muscles around the nose which laterally pull at the nostrils. By injecting a small amount of muscle relaxant into specific areas around the nose, the muscles are weakened, diminishing their 'pull' and reducing nostril flare this, in turn, can give the nose a much slimmer appearance.

Bunny Lines

Bunny lines are wrinkles on either side of the nose that appear when you scrunch your nose or make exaggerated facial expressions. They’re not the same as marionette lines or nasolabial folds which are wrinkles you get from smiling and laughing a lot. If you have bunny lines, they come from squinting your eyes and scrunching your nose—like a bunny. We get them because As we age, our skin loses elasticity and collagen production slows down. This means it becomes harder to keep our skin smooth and firm. In addition, repeated muscle movements can cause more pronounced lines to form around areas like your nose where you often hold tension. We treat bunny lines by injecting small amounts of muscle relaxant to limit the nasalis muscle and eliminate bunny lines.

Neck Band Treatment

Neck Bands

Neck bands are the horizontal fine lines that appear on our necks as we age causing the neck skin to become loose which leads to sagging skin. You may also have very apparent platysmal bands – the neck muscles that run vertically down your neck area – which become more prominent as you get older. Sometimes, platysmal bands are described as causing a 'turkey neck' appearance.

A decline in collagen and elastin contributes to fine lines and wrinkles, alongside excessive sun exposure and pollution. Additionally, thinning skin makes the platysmal bands more visible over time. Weight loss and teeth clenching associated with stress can also mean your platysmal bands are more noticeable.

We can treat this by injecting muscle relaxant into the area and blocking the nerve impulses to the muscles in the neck. The muscles then relax and can't contract also causing the lines to relax. They then begin to soften giving you a younger-looking complexion. This treatment is often combined with Facial Muscle slimming and is known as a 'Nefertiti neck lift after Egyptian Queen Nefertiti who was noted for her striking and elegant jawline.

Facial Muscle Slimming - Jaw

The primary way muscle relaxing injections can help you achieve a slimmer face is in connection with your jaw muscles. When face slimming injections are used for the masseter muscles, which are found at the back of the jaw, they prevent that area from tensing as much. The muscles run from the bottom of the jaw to the back of the cheekbone and are involved in chewing, clenching, and other movements. Too much tension in these muscles can create the look of a wider jaw.

When face slimming injections are used in that area, they can help those muscles relax and help the jaw lose some of the muscle mass it’s gained, resulting in a slimmer-looking face. People who clench or grind their teeth at night or during the day from stress can have more pronounced muscles around their jaw, making the face look bulkier and wider. By relaxing those muscles and preventing frequent tension, they will shrink and allow the face to assume a slimmer, more contoured appearance. This treatment can also be used to help with teeth grinding ( also known as bruxism)
